Mass Effect 3 external producer, Melanie Faulknor, has revealed that the Wii U version of the game will include exclusive weaponry and also allow players to experience the original Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 through an interactive Dark Horse comic. Faulknor also explained that the Mass Effect team didn’t want to go too far out there with Mass Effect on Wii U and just include additional features just for the sake of having new features.
“One of the things we’ve got for Mass Effect on Wii U is a Dark horse interactive comic that allows players to play through the first two games through comic screens, just like if you were reading a comic book,” she said. “You play through the story and it will bring up conversation options that allow you to choose where you want to direct the story.”
Dragon Quest X for Wii launched in Japan on August 2nd and according to publisher Square Enix, if you don’t play the game online at least once during a three month period, your characters’ data may be erased. Dragon Quest X players aren’t required to subscribe to continue playing the MMO, as they can choose to play during the “kid’s time” period, but still need to make sure that they connect to the game’s online servers every now and then.
Capcom’s Consumer Software Senior VP Christian Svensson has promised members of the Capcom Unity forums that the company has some secret Wii U projects in development. Svensson wouldn’t be drawn into discussing what these unannounced projects were, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
“Some good stuff is coming and I’d love to tell you more… but for now, I have to keep it a surprise. Sorry.”
A number of analyst have concluded that Nintendo 3DS sales in the United States last month will be double those of the PlayStation Vita. Analysts from Wedbush Morgan and EEDARexpect Microsoft’s Xbox 360 to remain the top-selling console in the United States for the 19th consecutive month.
New Super Mario Bros 2 once again attempts to set the bar for two-dimensional platformers but falls short on offering a fresh, energetic take on the series, though like any Mario title, it offers an abundance of charm backed up with numerous hours of blissful entertainment. It feels a little odd referring to the title as New Super Mario Bros when it doesn’t necessarily bring anything new to the table, but what it does do is provide you with yet another fun-filled escapade.
One glaring omission in New Super Mario Bros 2 is the complete lack of online multiplayer. Without a doubt this additional feature would have increased the longevity and replay value of the game ten-fold. One can only hope that this is rectified with the forthcoming New Super Mario Bros U on Wii U. As it stands, the replay value is dependant on whether you wish to collect as many coins as possible. I must confess that this isn’t something that caused me to revisit the game.
Despite not featuring any startling new gameplay innovations, New Super Mario Bros 2 stands as a more-than passable entry to the long-running franchise. It doesn’t match the splendour of the Super Mario Galaxy games, or the recently released Super Mario 3D Land, but as a whole it’s a genuinely good accompaniment to the best-selling New Super Mario Bros series.
Tales series producer Makoto Yoshizumi has revealed that he would like nothing more than to feature Tales characters in the next Smash Bros game for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Interestingly Yoshizumi said that they would only be allowed to feature Tales characters that have appeared on Nintendo formats.
“Maybe if we beg Sakurai-san, it will happen! I know Higuchi-san would love it, but the decision is Sakurai-san’s. I think it’s still too early to talk about it.”
“We need to keep in mind that a character can only appear in a Smash Bros game if he already appeared on a Nintendo console.”
Because EA Sports is bringing FIFA 13 and Madden NFL 13 to Nintendo’s forthcoming console, a Wii U version of NHL 13 is plausible. An EA representative was asked whether Wii U will receive the upcoming hockey video game, and the representative replied by saying “definitely keep your eyes open in the coming weeks.” NHL 13 will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in September.
Madden NFL 13 producer Yuri Bialoskursky was asked to describe the comfort level of the Wii U GamePad. Bialoskursky claims that, compared to traditional video game controllers, the Wii U GamePad is huge but gamers will get used to it, after playing with it for a while. According to Bialoskursky, the Wii U GamePad is not awkward to hold, doesn’t detract from gameplay, and “is actually very comfortable.”
How does the controller feel to you? The thing is so huge, it seems like it’s going to take a lot of getting used to for “Madden” fans that have been playing the game on other systems.
“There’s definitely going to be a period of adjustment there. That’s all out of our control, but when we’ve been playing it all throughout development, it’s not uncomfortable at all. The way that it’s laid out, the final controller, is actually very comfortable, and the way that it’s all laid out with our features, is all done in a way that isn’t intrusive to the game. It’s all done in the flow and the context of how the plays are supposed to game and the game really flows. It works really well.”
Madden NFL 13 is a Wii U launch title and will include local cooperative play, in which up to five players can play simultaneously. Gamers who play multiplayer Wii U games can choose among three different controllers – the Wii U GamePad, Wii Remote plus Nunchuk combination, and the Wii U Pro Controller. Which controller will be your preference, when playing a multiplayer game?
